The intersection of eating disorders and substance use disorders: Assessment and intervention
Eating disorders and substance use disorders affect millions of Americans. Both are heterogeneous diagnoses and can overlap in many ways. According to a systematic review and meta-analysis, approximately one in five individuals with an eating disorder (ED) also has a substance use disorder (SUD) at some point in their lives (Bahji et al., 2019), reflecting the high co-occurrence of these conditions.
