Behavioral activation: Principles and strategies
Behavioral activation (BA) is an evidence-based approach shown to reduce symptoms of depression while helping individuals live a more meaningful life in line with their values. This program will review the principles and strategies for using BA with patients who present with moderate to severe depression and a variety of co-occurring diagnoses. Learning Objectives
- Describe the application of three behavioral activation techniques to adolescents and/or adults with depression.
- Identify three barriers to successfully implementing behavioral activation and strategies to address them.
- Summarize at least three skills that may be used to complement BA to address safety concerns and common comorbidities.
- Describe at least one technique for how family members can support this treatment approach and at least two options for how to include them in the treatment process.
